5 Ways to Invest in a Healthier, more Natural Lifestyle

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realise that a more natural lifestyle goes way beyond just eating your veggies and has a gone a long way to improve my health and wellness. From household cleaners to your favorite beauty products, we’re surrounded by products that aren’t ideal for optimal health. Thanks to a lot of research, and some trial and error, I’ve managed to make some relatively simple switches to go more natural, and thought I’d share my 5 ways to help you invest in a Healthier, Go Natural lifestyle…

Before we start, just let me say that there are NO affiliate links in this post. The products are mentioned are ones that I have personally USED and LOVE and have included links for information purposes only.

Imagine your body was a car! If you put low grade fuel in it most of the time, it’s not going to run/perform as well as it should. Keep putting low-grade fuel in it, and you’ll probably clog the engine and one day it’ll just stop on you. Our body is exactly the same. If you put low-grade (nutritionally empty) fuel in the tank consistently, it can’t run/perform well, and will eventually let you know that it’s not happy!

Solution? Eat to fuel your body. Use good clean, high grade fuel – whole foods, nuts, fresh fruit and veggies, ethically raised meat – and make it organic if you can.

Eating fresh produce is a great way to start cleaning up your lifestyle, but what if your body isn’t optimising these incredible nutrients? It’s probably a good time to brush up on your knowledge of gut health.

Basically, gut health refers to the good and bad bacteria in our small and large intestines, and how they can impact our wellbeing. The gut is often referred to as the body’s second brain, and by paying more attention to this vital area, you may be able to treat everything from mental health disorders to common skin afflictions. By adding foods with probiotics like yogurt, kefir, kombucha or sauerkraut to your diet, you’ll be tending to this delicate and important microbiome.

I am big fan of doTERRA Essential Oils, and just love (and swear by) their lesser known supplement range.

As more consumers are growing wary of the questionable ingredients in household cleaners, an increasing number of people are seeking out non-toxic choices. If you’re one of them, vinegar and baking soda could be your new best friends. On their own or combined with the powerhouse essential oils, non-toxic DIY cleaning products can tackle some of the toughest jobs in your home.

Likewise with your skin care and personal care products – more and more people are becoming more conscious of the toxic ingredients and animal testing carried out on some of our favourite products, with many making the switch to more natural, ethically sourced products.

I am CRUSHING on Essano. This gorgeous New Zealand born & bred range is crafted on the belief that everyone should be able to have gorgeous products and amazing results without harm to themselves, our planet and our furry friends. It’s certified organic, all natural, cruelty free – OH, and it should mention, IT WORKS!

From cramps to headaches, and muscle soreness to coughs and colds most of us head straight to the Pharmacy for over-the-counter painkillers and remedies without giving it a second thought. But there are some natural remedies can do the job without some of the potential side effects that come with medications.

Curcumin, an ingredient found in the spice turmeric, is a known anti-inflammatory powerhouse, and can be a great alternative painkiller, and of course you can’t go past  honey and lemon tea for a cold and flu. There are thousands of natural remedies for common ailments, and will save you a bundle.

So as you can see, it’s not that hard to make a few simple tweaks to your everyday and invest in a healthier, more natural lifestyle. What tweaks have you made to yours? Drop a comment below.

Until next time…

My husband, Graham and I live in Newcastle (Australia), with our fur child, Axel – and our tribe of adult children are all off living their own best lives. I guess you could say I was a “late bloomer” – ie. it wasn’t until my 40’s that I discovered my love for all things fitness, nutrition, health and wellness. It started in 2004 when my eyes were opened to the fitness/sport of Pole Dancing just coming to Australia. We wanted IN, and by 2005 my daughter Bailey and I had opened our first pole studio – Pol-arise Fitness & Dance (which is still operating today under Bailey’s management). It wasn’t long before we also expanded into Aerial Yoga, Barre, Pilates, Suspension Fitness and Yoga, and I became a qualified Nutrition, Health and Life Coach (amongst other things). DEFY GRAVITY FITNESS brings together over 15 years of knowledge, and fusing it with Functional and Suspension fitness to create my EXCLUSIVE new Bungee and Suspension based fitness classes.
